A brief of antioxidant food supplements

Antioxidant food supplementAntioxidant supplements take part in a protective role for our general health.  Antioxidants supplements are theoretical to postpone the oxidation reactions which are is caused by the free radicals. The Free radicals are extremely reactive unstable atoms produced in our body that can damage cells causing to ageing and a number of diseases. They can damage the DNA, proteins and other cellular structures like the cell organelles and membranes.

The reactions of free radicals in the cell, and subsequent damage inflicted has been associated with various disorders and chronic diseases including atherosclerosis, arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes and also inflammatory conditions

Antioxidants supplements are able to slow down or obstruct these dangerous reactions in the body.  They can halt the oxidation reaction with intermediates or directly. They react with the free radicals and put off the oxidation reaction from occurring.

Lettuce’s benefit and the health conditions

Posted by kemston | Ginger, Healthy Tips, Honey, Lettuce, Spinach | Monday 3 May 2010 1:29 pm

Anaemia
Lettuce contains considerable amount of iron and supplies a good form of vegetable haemoglobin. It can, therefore, be used as a good tonic food for anaemia. The iron obtained in this way is absorbed by the body to a much greater degree than the inorganic iron tonic.

Constipation
As lettuce is rich in cellulose, it increases the bulk of the intestinal contents and encourages peristalsis. It is, therefore, highly beneficial in curing chronic constipation.
Half a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice, mixed with one teaspoonful of each of fresh lime juice and fresh mint juice and a tablespoonful of honey, constitutes an effective medicine for dyspepsia, nausea and vomiting due to a biliousness, indigestion caused by intake of heavy non-vegetarian and fried fatty food, morning sickness, jaundice and piles. This mixture should be sucked thrice daily in the treatment of these conditions. (more…)

Health benefit of Honey

Posted by kemston | Honey, Milk | Thursday 22 April 2010 3:13 pm

Honey has been known for its healing properties for thousands of years. The Ancient Greeks and Egyptians used it and so have many other cultures through the ages. Even up to the second world war, honey was being used for its antibacterial properties in treating wounds. With the advent of penicillin and other antibiotic drugs in the twentieth century, doctors and other medical professionals were under the misconception that medicine was more effective than honey.

Honey, a most assimilable carbohydrate compound, is a singularly acceptable, practical and most effective aliment to generate heat, create and replace energy, and furthermore, to form certain tissues. Honey, besides, supplies the organism with substances for the formation of enzymes and other biological ferments to promote oxidation. It has distinct germicidal properties and in this respect greatly differs from milk which is an exceptionally good breeding-ground for bacteria. Honey is a most valuable food, which today is not sufficiently appreciated. Its frequent if not daily use is vitally important. (more…)

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Remedy

Posted by kemston | Antioxidant, Apple, Honey | Tuesday 20 April 2010 9:04 am

The health benefits of the apple cider vinegar and honey drink are widely known. It is seen as a powerful cleansing agent and natural healing elixir with naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic that fights germs and bacteria. Many people have recognised and made use of its cleansing and disinfecting properties to self-detoxify their body.

So, how does this vinegar and honey remedy actually work? A person’s bloodstream tends toward becoming acidic with our modern diet of fats, starches and processed foods, (e.g fast foods, meats, peanuts, seafoods, alcohol and coffee)and if your body is acidic, disease can flourish; if it is alkaline, it is in balance and can fight off germs and ailments such as bladder and kidney conditions, osteoporosis, brittle bones, joint pains, aching muscles, low energy and chronic fatigue, and slow digestion.

Raw fruits, leafy green vegetables, legumes, and tea are examples of alkaline forming foods. Interestingly and ironically, a food’s acid or alkaline-forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. (more…)

Health benefit of honey and apple cider vinegar

Posted by kemston | Antioxidant, Apple, Honey | Monday 12 April 2010 9:39 pm

Honey and cider vinegar as a remedy has been made well known. Essentially, a tablespoon or two of each is dissolved in a glass of water and taken several times daily as needed. White (distilled) vinegar is not recommended, by the way common ailments, including colds, infections, rheumatism and arthritis may be relieved, and even cured with this simple treatment.

One rationale for the vinegar and honey regimen is that a person’s blood stream tends toward becoming alkaline through a modern diet of fats, starches and de-vitalized processed foods (here we go again, right?).  The acidity of cider vinegar, although weak, is enough to correct this excess alkalinity, and that a slightly acidic bloodstream prevents and fights infection. Since vinegar solution in a tea-kettle dissolves mineral build-up, and also suspected that calcium deposits in the joints might also be dissolved by a slightly acidic bloodstream

Honey added to the vinegar naturally makes the mixture more drinkable for people. Honey also contains subtle amounts of energies and minerals just beginning to be noticed, let alone fully understood. (more…)

Antioxidants, all about it

Posted by kemston | Antioxidant, Apple, Broccoli, Honey, Lemon, Lettuce, Mangosteen, Milk, Pomegranate, Star fruit, Tea, Tomato, Watermelon | Thursday 1 April 2010 4:10 pm

Oxygen is the basis of all plant and animal life. It is our most important nutrient, needed by every cell, without it we cannot release the energy in food which drives all body processes; Oxygen is chemically reactive and highly dangerous, in normal biochemical reactions oxygen can become unstable and capable of “oxidising neighbouring molecules”, leading to cellular damage, which triggers cancer, inflammation, arterial damage and aging;
Known as free oxidising radicals, this body waste must be disarmed to remove the danger; Free radicals are made in all combustion processes including smoking, the burning of petrol to create exhaust fumes, radiation, frying or barbecuing food and normal body processes;
Chemicals capable of disarming free radicals are called antioxidants. The main players are vitamins A, C and E plus beta-carotene, the precursor of vitamin A that is found in fruit and vegetables;
Bioflavonoids, anthocyanadins, pycnogenol and over a hundred other antioxidants, may literally be the balance between life and death;
A low calorie diet high in antioxidant nutrients is the best way to slow down the aging process; (more…)
